Website #9

Skratchpublishing.com is a fun website that allows students to track all the books they have read in order to gain rewards. The more rewards you gain, the more postcards are unlocked to show where the mascot Chicken Skratch has traveled. The goal is to read as many books as you can and write minibook reports to bring Chicken Skratch home. In doing this, the program tracks your progress and produces a report card. While the site encourages students to read, teachers can access their student's report cards to see how much they are doing and how much they are learning. I think the main goal of Skratchpublishing.com is to improve students' critical thinking and writing skills. It allows students to learn to use the computer and the internet in a safe environment and creates a dialogue between students, teachers, and parents.
