There are word scrambles and searches, famous quotes, crosswords, and coloring activities on the Folger Shakespeare Library website. Children are able to learn about Shakespeare while they play games and do puzzles. Most of the content on the site could be done individually or as a group, depending on the teacher's preference.This would be a great website to use in a Literature classroom during a Shakespeare unit. I think the main goal of Folger Shakespeare Library is for students to gain an overview of Shakespeare as a person and his works in a fun and interesting way.

KidLit gives children a chance to see other kids' writing published on the internet and inspires them to start writing and submit their own work. You could use this in the classroom as a project for each student to work on by themselves or as a collaborative classroom project. Submissions can be from students all the way up to 12th grade. Using this site, students have a chance to peer edit other students' work and learn form each other. I think the main goal of KidLit is to make writing fun and provide a sense of accomplish for the work they have done.

Storyline Onine is an innovative website featuring real actors reading quality children's picture books aloud. Just by clicking on a book on the left hand side of the screen, you can give your students a break from your voice and have them listen to someone else, maybe an actor that they know. I think the main goal of this site is to teach children that there is more to learning than just what is inside the classroom. It expands their knowledge of what is just infornt of them and allows them to appreciate a variety of stories and a variety of ways in which they are read (i.e., speed, tone, and flexion).

Behindthename.com is an etomology website that could be used as a creative tool in a Language Arts or Reading rooms. When reading a story in which the setting is foreign, the teacher could have students look up the names of the characters in the story using this website and learn about the origin of the names. Additionally, the students could look up their own names or the names of their family members as a fun factor. As a teacher, you could also have students look up other names based on the location of the story and have them change the names of the characters to whatever they choose. This gives them a sense of ownership and responsibily to the story and makes the lesson more interesting. I think the main goal of Behindthename is to education visitors on the historical background of certain names so that they can make furthure connections with what they are researching based on the origins of key persons names.

AAASpell.com is a website that helps studebts in grades 1-8 with their spelling and grammar. The spelling section consists of several parts: spelling a word by adding letters, deleteing letters, reversing letters, unscrambling all the letters, comparing the spelling of two words, and putting the word in alphabetical order. The vocabulary section is divided into lessons. Each lesson consists of ten words. By licking on the lesson, each word is given with its part of speech and multiple meanings. At the bottom of each lesson are activities that could be assigned as homewrk or done in class. I think the main goal of AAASpell is to show kids that learning to spell and understand meaning of words makes reading more enjoyable.

American Literature Sites is a great resource for an Americn Literature class, most likely a middle school or high school classroom. On this site, students can look up specific authors they are studying to learn of their biographies or answer questions based on certain books. Quizzes and crosswords are also available. Additionally, students and teachers can access overviews of literary movements throughout history. I think the main goal of American Literature Sites is to provide a supplimentary source to classroom instruction to make learning a smoother process.

Reading rockets is a great resource for teachers of all grades and for teachers in a Reading room. The site provides helpful hints for teaching struggling readers and includes an article of 103 activities that a teacher can do in their Landuage Arts or Reading classroom. The activities come from a practicing teacher and comments are left on the site from other who have used the tips. From acting out scenes of a book to drawing the setting of the story or rewriting scenes, the suggestions are very creative and gets the students engaged in what they are learning.

DiscoveryEducation.com is a website that provides a section for 'English Homework Help' for grades K-12 in three different areas: writing, mechanics, and grammar. In the form of short video clips, key concepts are stressed and can be used as a reinforcer in the classroom as you approach each unit. Additionally, lesson plans for most of the popular novels that are read in public schools can also be found on this site. From 'Brothers Grimm' to 'The Scarlet Letter', this site is useful for all grades up to 12th grade. I think the main goal of DiscoveryEducation is to prove to students that learning can be achieved in many different ways and can even be fun.

Skratchpublishing.com is a fun website that allows students to track all the books they have read in order to gain rewards. The more rewards you gain, the more postcards are unlocked to show where the mascot Chicken Skratch has traveled. The goal is to read as many books as you can and write minibook reports to bring Chicken Skratch home. In doing this, the program tracks your progress and produces a report card. While the site encourages students to read, teachers can access their student's report cards to see how much they are doing and how much they are learning. I think the main goal of Skratchpublishing.com is to improve students' critical thinking and writing skills. Also, there is a past and present form matching game and puctuation identification game. Additionally, students and parents are able to review grammar usage, and mechanics at school and at home through animated graphics that make concepts come alive. Moreover, the site provides resources for parents and teachers to help their students succeed. I think the main goal of Harcourtschool is to supply students with key concepts and drills to reinforce these concepts so that they will be able to recognize on their own what makes good writing, hopefully preparing them to succeed independently.

For the classroom, the site provides lesson plans created by other teachers on a variety of topics ranging from K-5th grade. Along with the lesson plans, you can choose different games to play on the computer to reinforce the lessons. Additionally, printable worksheets are available to be used as assemeent tools or guides to help the students organize their thoughts. For extra help at home, the site provides podcasts that suggest different books to read with your child, computer games that get students engaged in learning, and activity sheets that allow parents to become their child's supplimentary teacher outside the classroom. I think the main goal of Readwritethink is to provide assistance for teachers, parents, and students in order to incorporate fun in learning.

Topics include: reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, ryhming, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, present, past, and future tenses, singular and plural pronouns, and word searches - all according to their appropriate grade level. The site includes quizzes, quizzes and interactive games that cover each topic This site could be used at home or in the classroom as a suppliment to the regular lesson or as a testing tool for teachers to evaluate students' understanding. Additionally, this could help with ESL students, because there is a resource for Spanish English translation flashcards dealing with animals and body parts. I think the main goal of SoftSchools is to help reinforce fundamental principles that a student learns from the teacher while adding an element of fun to their learning.

Wacky Web Tales, a part of Education Place, gives the student the authority to create their own story. Studnnts fill in the blanks by choosing their own examples of different nouns, verbs, adjectives and so on to contribute to an existing story line. While this activity personalizes the lesson, students still learn to differentiate between nouns, adjectives, verbs, and parts of speech. This could be used in the classroom as a primary teaching tool for reinforcement or as a reward that subsequently teaches the student at the same time.

Education Place is a source for numerous graphic organizers used for brainstorming ideas for writing. This would be very beinificial to use during a unit for prewriting skills. It allows the student to organize and manage their thoughts on paper and make connections with different ideas inorder to write a paper that flows systematically. This website would also be benifical to Title 1 Reading teachers to use in their classrooms to help remedial learners. I think the main goal of Education Place is to help guide a student's thought processes in order to get them to connect their own ideas and make their own conclusions based own persoanal opinions and experiences.

Topics covered for each level include spelling, vocabulary, reading and writing skills, and even critically thinking skills. Funbrain.com is an interactive website that acts as a tutor for grammar skills, spelling, and even foreign languages, providing quizzes in the form of games. This would be useful in the classroom to keep the students' attention and help them understand basic principles at the same time. In a tutorial-like fashion, the key points or lessons are listed below the game to which the student can refer. Also, games can be played to practice identifying nouns, verbs, and adjectives by typing in an example in the provided box. I think the main goal of Funbrain.com is to provide extra help to those who don't quite understand the concepts being taught in class and provide reinforcement for those who understand the concepts.
